Maureen Sweeeny who was resident at Blacksod lighthouse with her husband Ted from the 1940s until the 1970s passed away on December 17th 2023.
Maureen was best known for her famous weather report of June 1944 that would see the D-day landing postponed by 24 hours.For this achievement, in 2021, the US House of Representatives honored Maureen in the TÃ Aire nursing home in Belmullet, Co Mayo, through giving her a special recognition, which has been awarded by the institution since 1789.
Maureen will be very much missed by her family and friends but her legacy and story will live on in our history.
