Blacksod Lighthouse - Open to visitors!
A guided tour through our maritime history
A bustling pier with stunning views
Exit the heavy metal hatch onto the building’s balcony and enjoy breath-taking panoramic views of the bay, from Ballycroy to Belmullet, Achill Head and Slievemore and even the cliffs of Croaghan, some of the highest sea cliffs in Europe. Watch the herons and wading birds pick at the sand and gulls circle the pier in search of fishy cast offs. If you are lucky enough you might spot a playful pod of dolphins or even a breaching whale!
Tour Information
Set aside around 30 minutes to enjoy the Blacksod Lighthouse tour. Arrive a little early and watch the colourful fishing boats pull in their haul or enjoy a cup of coffee with a stunning sea view. Please note, Blacksod is a fully operational lighthouse which also functions as a forward refuelling station for search and rescue teams and occasionally visits may be interrupted and the building commandeered. On such rare occasions, refunds will be issued.
