Autumn and Winter Opening Hours 2026–2027
Blacksod Lighthouse Tours will continue throughout the autumn and winter season, giving visitors an opportunity to discover the history of this remarkable working lighthouse on the Atlantic coast.
Weekend Tour Times
Guided tours will operate every Saturday and Sunday at:
- 12pm
- 1pm
- 3pm
During the tour, visitors can explore the lighthouse, learn about the lives of its keepers and discover the remarkable story of Ted and Maureen Sweeney and the weather observations from Blacksod that contributed to the final decision before D-Day.
Visitors will also hear about the construction and operation of the lighthouse, its importance to maritime navigation and the generations of families who made it their home.
Advance booking is strongly recommended, particularly during weekends and holiday periods. Tours are subject to availability, operational requirements and local weather conditions.
Please dress appropriately for the season, as Blacksod Point can be exposed to strong Atlantic winds and rapidly changing weather.
Please note that there are no public toilet facilities inside Blacksod Lighthouse. Toilet facilities are available at the nearby SOLAS Visitor Centre in Eachléim during its opening hours.
